Goal reports Manchester United Women have opened the January window with increased activity, signing Hanna Lundkvist on December 27, securing Hinata Miyazawa on a contract extension through to 2029 a day later, and adding Germany international Lea Schuller before the new year; Schuller scored 103 goals in 180 appearances for Bayern Munich.

The moves follow a summer in which United made just three signings and allowed two first-team players to depart, leaving a squad the outlet described as ill-equipped for competing in the Women's Champions League proper and domestically. That lack of depth was exposed by injuries and absences this season — the side used only more players in the UWCL league phase than Twente — yet have still advanced through the Champions League league phase and reached domestic cup later stages.

Manager Marc Skinner has repeatedly said his team "need three or four" signings this month, and the club still faces a first knockout round tie with Atletico Madrid while sitting nine points off the WSL leaders and a point outside the European places. United's early January additions have raised the squad ceiling ahead of a potentially pivotal trip to Arsenal on Saturday, but the club says more work remains to be done.
