Manchester United have no plans to sign in January, per report
Onefootball reports the English boss beat Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to the position, despite the Norwegian leading the race before the interview process, but Carrick will have to work with the squad he has inherited as the club have no plans to make new signings this winter, per journalist Mark Ogden.
The Red Devils are aware of the need to strengthen in midfield, but none of their top targets are available this month. Deals for Adam Wharton, Elliot Anderson or Carlos Baleba are described as unlikely, with Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest and Brighton & Hove Albion not interested in selling. United’s hierarchy do not want to make short-term additions and are prepared to wait until the summer.
Outgoings are also unlikely in the ongoing transfer window, with the club intending to keep Joshua Zirkzee, Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo at Old Trafford. Carrick faces a difficult task to revive the club’s fortunes: they have won just once in their previous seven matches in all competitions and sit seventh in the league standings, and his first game will be against title contenders Manchester City, who beat them 3-0 in the reverse fixture of the season.
On player availability, Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo will be available for selection following the elimination of Cameroon and Ivory Coast from the Africa Cup of Nations, while Noussair Mazraoui continues to miss out as Morocco remain in the tournament.
