Margot Robbie Wears Elizabeth Taylor’s Cartier ‘Taj Mahal’ Necklace at LA Premiere
Margot Robbie wore the Cartier Taj Mahal necklace that once belonged to Elizabeth Taylor to the Los Angeles premiere of Wuthering Heights on Wednesday, Jan. 28, the estate confirmed. Robbie, 35, wore a form-fitting Schiaparelli gown with a nude lace bodice that faded into a dramatic black-and-red train and paired it with the historic pendant from the Elizabeth Taylor Archive and Estate.
Robbie told reporters on the red carpet that she and her stylist, Andrew Mukamal, try to be "intentional" with her looks, saying, "This necklace and the diamond itself has a pretty incredible history and feels like a very romantic history, so it felt appropriate to match with our Schiaparelli gown." She completed the look with custom 38-carat Lorraine Schwartz diamond earrings made of vintage old-cut stones set in blackened bronze and gold, and she also wore a ring from Fred Leighton.
Per a press release from Taylor's estate, the pendant bears a Parsee inscription reading "Love is Everlasting" and traces its history to Nur Jahan, Shah Jahangir, Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal; the monument inspired the diamond's name and it later found its way to Elizabeth Taylor, who received it from Richard Burton in 1972 for her 40th birthday.
Robbie and Jacob Elordi star as Catherine and Heathcliff in the forthcoming film adaptation of Emily Brontë's 1847 novel.
