At this weekend’s Golden Globes, actor Mark Ruffalo’s red‑carpet interview about the killing of Renee Good became the ceremony’s most viral moment. Ruffalo, asked to explain a pin on his tuxedo, said: “I’m not feeling so great. We have a woman, Renee Good was murdered in our streets of America today … As much as I love all this, I don’t know if I can pretend like this crazy stuff isn’t happening.” The ceremony had already been criticised as out of step with the moment, described in the source as “all a bit 1920s Berlin” with wealthy attendees congratulating themselves.

The piece notes an assistant attorney general has decided not to investigate the killing of an unarmed civilian by an ICE agent, as would be usual in the case of a shooting by law enforcement. Several other attendees also wore a “Be Good” badge, including Jean Smart, Ariana Grande, Wanda Sykes and Natasha Lyonne.

The article highlights Ruffalo’s long record of public activism, saying the “activism and political views” section of his Wikipedia page runs to 14 paragraphs covering causes from Iran to pollution, and noting that just after the Globes he signed a letter calling for the immediate restoration of medical care in Gaza.
