According to Gamesradar, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms showrunner Ira Parker said George R.R. Martin has been nothing but supportive of the new spin-off, even though Martin has not always approved of adaptations of his books.

Parker told reporters he spent a week in Santa Fe with Martin and some of the author's favorite writers. "George has been such a wonderful partner in this," he said. "I spent a week in Santa Fe with him and some of his favorite writers, and we were just breaking ideas and breaking stories for what season 1 of the show could look like. And there were a lot of surprises that came out of there, just some really wonderful ideas, things that George gravitated towards that we were doing, that we were introducing."

Parker framed the Santa Fe sessions as a creative collaboration that produced unexpected ideas Martin liked. Beyond his account of those meetings, the report does not list which specific changes or ideas Martin favored for season 1.
