Martinelli hat-trick sends Arsenal into FA Cup fourth round
According to Goal, Arsenal booked their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup with a 4-1 win over Championship side Portsmouth at Fratton Park on Sunday, Gabriel Martinelli scoring a hat-trick while Andre Dozzell put through his own net.
Portsmouth opened the scoring after three minutes when Colby Bishop pounced on Kepa Arrizabalaga’s weak save, but Arsenal were level five minutes later when Eberechi Eze’s corner led to Dozzell’s own goal. Noni Madueke’s in-swinging corner then found Martinelli to put Arsenal ahead, and after a first-half miss and a missed penalty from Madueke, Myles Lewis-Skelly’s quick free-kick set up Gabriel Jesus for Martinelli to score again after 53 minutes. Martinelli completed his treble with a late header from another corner with 18 minutes of normal time remaining.
Arsenal’s victory sends them through to the fourth round and keeps up their push for a first piece of silverware since winning the same competition six years ago. Player ratings in the coverage gave Martinelli 9/10, with Ben White and Mikel Merino among those also rated highly, while Kai Havertz made a first appearance since his long-term injury as a substitute.
