Marvel Zombies may get more development, Marvel Studios executive says
MovieWeb reports that Brad Winderbaum, Marvel Studios' head of streaming, television and animation, said on the Official Marvel Podcast that the animated Disney+ series Marvel Zombies may be developed further after its one-season run.
The four-episode, adult-oriented show premiered on Disney+ last September and is positioned in Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It spun off from an episode of What If...? in which a virus transformed much of Earth's population into walkers, and saw Florence Pugh, Iman Vellani, Randall Park, Simu Liu, Elizabeth Olsen, Tessa Thompson and Paul Rudd reprise their MCU roles; the series was reportedly doing awesome numbers but was launched as a one-season event.
Winderbaum said, "Obviously, nothing's been green lit yet, but we are actively developing the next zombie story," and added "It's not official" while noting that "[showrunner Bryan Andrews is] back in the house and we're starting to talk about ideas." The show's ambiguous ending — in which Kamala Khan briefly appears to wake in her bedroom before Riri Williams reveals the events were fake — and mixed critical reaction mean development has begun but no official renewal has been announced.
