Steve Downes, the iconic voice of Master Chief, has spoken about Halo 5's misleading promotional videos more than 10 years later, Gamesradar reported.

Before Halo 5's release in 2015, 343 and Microsoft released trailers and promotional videos that showed material not present in the final game, including misleading suggestions about Master Chief's relationship with the game's other playable protagonist, Spartan Locke.

Downes addressed the topic in an AMA and also commented on generative AI in game development, saying AI voice cloning is 'where we cross a line.'

There has never been an official explanation for why the pre-release materials were deceptive; a common theory is that the game went through a major rewrite after the ads were produced and it was too late to redo them.
