Masters of the Universe trailer hits 32M YouTube views, outpaces Supergirl
The trailer for Amazon MGM Studios’ live-action Masters of the Universe racked up 32 million YouTube views in under a week, eclipsing the trailer for Supergirl, Collider reported.
On YouTube Masters of the Universe had 32 million views to Supergirl’s 23 million. On Instagram Supergirl held 239,000 likes to Masters’ 216,000, and on Twitter/X Supergirl had 12.6 million views to Masters’ 7.9 million, per Collider’s rundown of social metrics.
The Masters trailer gave audiences a first extensive look at the high-tech barbarian world of Eternia, rewarding repeat viewings with glimpses of characters such as Mekaneck, Ram Man and Spikor. Nicholas Galitzine stars as Adam Glenn (He-Man) alongside James Purefoy, Charlotte Riley, Idris Elba, Camila Mendes, Morena Baccarin, Kristen Wiig, Jared Leto and Alison Brie.
The Supergirl preview highlighted Milly Alcock’s Supergirl and her dog Krypto — both featured in last year’s Superman — while Jason Momoa’s Lobo was largely kept in the shadows until recently.
Neither Masters of the Universe nor Supergirl has matched the online attention of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which is slated for mid-July, giving both June releases more time to build buzz.
Masters of the Universe is due in theaters June 5, and Supergirl follows June 26; which will translate into bigger box office returns remains to be seen.
