Matt Turner embraces fight for USMNT No. 1
Matt Turner says he cares deeply about the U.S. national team and was hurt by the narrative that veterans do not, stressing the sacrifices he has made to be available and compete.
He described 2025 as a year of highs and lows, citing an FA Cup triumph and family moves alongside limited club minutes, national team setbacks and a demotion as Matt Freese emerged as the preferred starter.
Turner says he will continue to fight for the starting spot, refusing to accept his fate, and plans to use the start of the MLS season and the March national team camp to make his case.
He emphasised competing with respect within the goalkeeper group and noted that coach Mauricio Pochettino has kept the door open to test different keepers ahead of the World Cup.
