Maury Povich says he 'couldn't do' his talk show today in ABC docuseries trailer
People exclusively revealed the trailer for ABC's three-part series Dirty Talk: When Daytime Talk Shows Ruled TV, in which veteran host Maury Povich, 86, says, "I couldn't do that show today. There's no way."
The trailer chronicles some of daytime TV's most iconic moments, including Oprah bringing a wagon of fat on stage, crowds chanting Jerry Springer's name and Povich's signature intoning of "You are not the father!" It notes Povich hosted his show from 1991 to 2022 and features other programs such as Ricki Lake, The Geraldo Rivera Show, Sally and The Montel Williams Show; Sally creator Burt Dubrow, Jerry Springer and others also appear. Sally host Sally Jessy Raphael, 90, says in the trailer that "the more controversial the better," and ABC said the series "examines the rise, fall and lasting impact of the most sensational era in television talk show history."
The three episodes promise never-before-told stories from hosts, producers and insiders alongside expert analysis. The first episode airs Wednesday, Jan. 14 at 9 p.m. on ABC (and streams the next day on Disney+ and Hulu), the second airs Jan. 21 and examines why viewers watched and why guests agreed to bare it all — including the shocking incident when one guest murdered another after a taping — and the third, on Jan. 28, explores the new levels of sensationalism led by The Jerry Springer Show.
