Team USA snowboarder Chloe Kim is days away from competing at her third Winter Olympics in Milan Cortina 2026. On January 8 she suffered a dislocated shoulder during a training session in Switzerland and told fans she was “trying to stay really optimistic.” By January 13 she updated followers that she was “good to go,” though she said she hadn’t gotten the number of reps she would have liked.

Kim was born April 23, 2000, in Torrance, California, and began snowboarding at age four. She spent third and fourth grade studying and training in Switzerland and was named one of TIME’s 30 Most Influential Teens in 2015 after winning a gold medal at the X Games at 14.

She joined the U.S. Snowboarding Team in 2013 at age 13 and won gold at the 2016 Winter Youth Olympics, setting a record for highest score in the halfpipe and slopestyle events. Kim won Olympic halfpipe gold in 2018 and 2022, is the youngest woman to win an Olympic snowboarding gold medal, and is the first woman to defend an Olympic gold in the same event.
