Ethereum layer 2 MegaETH reached network speeds of up to 47,000 transactions per second in testing, the project said, as it prepares a global stress test ahead of its mainnet launch.

In an X post on Monday, MegaETH said it will launch a “global stress test” on Thursday and added, "On Jan 22nd, we’re opening mainnet to users for several latency-sensitive apps while the chain is under intense, sustained load." The team said it is targeting sustained, true TPS of 15–35K and plans to total 11 billion transactions across seven days.

The stress test will mix backend pushes of ETH transfers and v3 AMM swaps through @kumbaya_xyz with user interactions on Web3 gaming apps stomp.gg, Smasher and Crossy Fluffle, the project said. MegaETH is described by the team as an L2 optimized for speed over decentralization and is touted as "the first real-time blockchain" with a claimed ability to process over 100,000 TPS.

According to an X post by analytics platform growthepie, MegaETH hit a high of almost 47,000 TPS on Jan. 16. The project said it is aiming for 15,000–35,000 TPS during the stress test but noted the figure could differ once the chain launches officially; the mainnet is currently open only to a limited number of infrastructure builders and applications and MegaETH said the official launch will follow shortly after the stress test.
