People reports that Megan Hilty was brought to tears on Sunday, Jan. 11, as she took her final bow in Broadway's Death Becomes Her at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre in New York City. Hilty, who originated the role of Madeline Ashton in the show's 2024 Chicago premiere and its Broadway run, earned a rare mid-show standing ovation for her Act I number "Falling Apart" and received cheers throughout the matinee.

Members of the creative team and close supporters were in the audience; costar Josh Lamon presented her with flowers and praised her as "extraordinary," calling her "an extraordinary artist" and "an extraordinary mother," noting she parented her children, daughter Viola Philomena, 11, and son Ronan Laine, 7, while leading the show.

During the curtain call Hilty began to cry as castmates including Michelle Williams and Dee Roscioli offered comfort, and she ended her time onstage waving, blowing kisses and jumping in celebration with the company. Betsy Wolfe will step into the role of Madeline Ashton beginning Friday, Jan.
