In Season 2, Episode 4 of NBC's The Hunting Party, titled "Amanda Weiss," Melissa Roxburgh says her character Agent Rebecca “Bex” Henderson crosses paths with a female serial killer while carrying guilt over withholding information from teammate Shane Florence. The episode introduces guest star Elizabeth Gillies as Amanda Weiss, nicknamed “The Masseuse,” who has a pattern of breaking the necks of her female massage clients.

Roxburgh said Bex, still grieving her sister, theorizes Weiss' behavior is trauma related, and Bex, CIA agent Jacob Hassani and Shane circle up to stop Weiss after she kidnaps another woman. Roxburgh said she enjoyed working with Gillies, calling her “awesome” and noting they got along well off camera, which made playing friends onscreen easier.

She also praised how different guest actors shape the killers and their choices week to week. The episode pulls back layers on the team’s new Inmate Recovery Task Force commander, Colonel Lazarus, and advances Bex and Shane’s relationship. Roxburgh said Shane starts to become a supportive, lightening influence for Bex, while in the episode he reveals that a Pit inmate was his mother.

Bex, however, cannot be honest about what she knows regarding Colonel Lazarus. That secrecy leaves Bex carrying guilt, Roxburgh explained, because Shane has been there for her but she can’t reciprocate without risking whatever unravels if she pulls the thread.
