Mewgenics Could Take 500 Hours to Fully Complete, Developers Say
On Tuesday, Mewgenics, a tactical RPG-slash-life-sim roguelite about breeding and battling cats from the creators of The Binding of Isaac and Closure, launched and quickly climbed to the top of Steam’s charts. In an AMA on the Steam Deck subreddit, developers Edmund McMillen and Tyler Glaiel revealed the game’s scope.
McMillen called it “one of the largest tactical RPGs of all time,” and said “it will take an average player about 200+ hours to ‘beat the game’ and 500+ hours to 100% :)” The game also includes 281 Steam achievements and around 1,000 unique abilities to unlock.
Glaiel warned there are “a lot of little things that I think people will be discovering for months or years. But we will reserve the true ARG level stuff for DLC.” McMillen said the team plans to begin work on DLC in the next few months with a planned release about a year later, and he hinted a Switch 2 port might be on the way; the game is currently only available on PC.
