Mewgenics, the new release from Edmund McMillen and Tyler Glaiel, sold 250,000 copies in 12 hours. Glaiel shared a screenshot of a 2023 post in which he said selling that many copies would constitute success. Earlier coverage noted the game reached over 150,000 sales in six hours; McMillen's previous single-day sales record was 40,000 for The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth.

The team said it recovered its development budget after three hours. Mewgenics was first announced in 2012, put on hold in 2014, canceled in 2016 and picked back up two years later. To mark the milestone, Glaiel posted a photo of himself and McMillen with a cat-shaped cake, replica awards and gold medals.

On Steam the game peaked at a player count a few shy of 66,000 and was the platform's top-selling game yesterday.
