Mewgenics tops Steam and recoups development costs in three hours
Mewgenics reached the top of Steam’s charts within 24 hours of release, drawing more than 67,000 concurrent players at peak and becoming the platform’s best-selling game for the day.
The indie roguelike had a long, delayed development that began with its incubation over 12 years ago and evolved significantly during that time. Co-developer Edmund McMillen was reportedly nervous about the outcome despite previous successes with Super Meat Boy and The Binding of Isaac.
Fellow developer Tyler Glaiel said the team recouped their development budget just three hours after launch and thanked players for the support.
