Michael J. Fox says Harrison Ford 'brought me to tears' on Shrinking season 3
Michael J. Fox, 64, has joined season 3 of Apple TV+'s Shrinking as a guest star and said co-star Harrison Ford, 83, moved him to tears with his portrayal of a character who has Parkinson's, Fox told Vanity Fair. Ford plays Dr. Paul Rhoades, a character living with Parkinson's on the show.
Fox, who has Parkinson's in real life, praised Ford as a 'brilliant actor' and said Ford had to convince him he had Parkinson's: 'I don’t have to convince him I have Parkinson’s, but he had to convince me he had Parkinson’s,' he told Vanity Fair.
Fox added that he 'recognized Parkinson’s in his eyes' and that Ford brought his own understanding of the disease to the role — a performance Fox admitted, 'I was just brought to tears by it.'
Ford, for his part, described Fox as 'generous, supportive, open, just a wonderful person' and 'a pretty god-d--- good actor too,' saying portraying the disease was 'a very important experience' for him. Ford told PEOPLE the two had met a few times before and that Fox's willingness to join the show 'is a great source of inspiration and gives us a real purpose.'
New episodes of Shrinking drop Wednesdays on Apple TV+, and the actors' on-set collaboration — and how the series continues to handle the subject of Parkinson's — is playing out through the season.
