Mickey Rourke denounces GoFundMe set up to stop his eviction
Movieweb reports that Mickey Rourke has publicly denounced a GoFundMe page created to help him avoid eviction, saying he had no involvement and does not want charity.
In an Instagram video, Rourke called the fundraiser "embarrassing" and said he "doesn't want any 'f*cking charity,'" adding, "If I needed money, I wouldn't ask for no f*cking charity. I'd rather stick a gun up my ass and pull the trigger." The campaign was reportedly organized by Liya-Joelle Jones, a friend and member of his management team, and The Hollywood Reporter noted it was set up with Rourke's "full permission." The GoFundMe launched early Sunday and has since passed its $100,000 goal, raising about $102,693 from more than 2,700 donations.
Rourke said he will contact his longtime lawyer, Bill Sobel, to "get to the bottom" of the situation and urged donors to retrieve their contributions. His manager Kimberly Hines told The Hollywood Reporter the fundraiser had been intended to help Rourke, that he was moved to a West Hollywood hotel in the past 48 hours, and that any money will be returned if he decides he does not want it.
