Mickey Rourke starts GoFundMe to avoid eviction
Movieweb reports that Oscar-nominated actor Mickey Rourke, 73, has launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds to avoid eviction from his Los Angeles home.
According to the article, Rourke was reportedly served an eviction notice in December demanding an alleged $59,100 in back rent on the three-bedroom bungalow or to vacate within three days; it appears he is still hunkered down in the property but time is running out. The crowdfunding drive, titled "Help Mickey Rourke Stay in His Home," was launched Sunday morning (Jan. 4) and has accepted more than 1,700 donations totaling $70,055 toward a $100,000 goal. "Mickey is facing a very real and urgent situation: the threat of eviction from his home," reads the description on the GoFundMe page, which was set up with Rourke's permission by Liya-Joelle Jones, a friend and member of his management team, per The Hollywood Reporter.
The article notes the fundraiser is well on its way to its $100,000 target and says it should offer Rourke some stability after being hit with a landlord lawsuit at the backend of last year. Speaking to THR about the initiative, Jones said, "Mickey is going through a very difficult time right now, and it's been incredibly touching to see how many people care about him and want to help." Time remains a pressing issue as the campaign continues.
