Microsoft adds tables to Notepad on Windows 11; AI streaming limited to Copilot+ PCs
Pcgamer reports Microsoft has rolled out table support in Notepad for Windows 11 users and also introduced an AI text streaming feature that is currently restricted to Copilot+ PCs.
Notepad has seen several additions since 2022, including spell checking, a dark mode, tabbed windows, state preservation and basic formatting, and the latest update adds tables to that list. According to Windows Latest, the table feature should now be visible to all Windows 11 users, while AI text streaming is apparently limited to Copilot+ PCs (ones with a CPU that has a 40+ TOPS NPU in them); Microsoft says it will eventually roll that feature out to all Windows 11 systems.
Users can disable Copilot in settings, though the article's author says it repeatedly re-enables on his machine. The writer says he values Notepad's simplicity, prefers to use Notepad++ or dedicated word processors when he needs more power, and worries the app may become bloated if Microsoft continues adding features.
