Mikaela Shiffrin apologizes after profanity during live 'Today' interview
Olympic skier Mikaela Shiffrin uttered the f-word on live television during a 'Today' show interview from Milan. She had won gold in the women’s slalom the day before and was discussing her late father and a "spiritual journey" when she accidentally swore, then said "S–t!" and covered her mouth, adding, "Oh my God, I’m so sorry." Hosts Carson Daly, Hoda Kotb and Craig Melvin were unfazed.
Kotb told her, "We got you!" and joked, "We’ll pay the fine," referring to FCC rules. Melvin said, "We know what you meant. We know what you meant. You’re wearing gold! It’s OK. It’s OK," and added, "She’s just like us!" Shiffrin also recounted teammates pressing her to drink espresso martinis after the win.
"Everyone kept handing me espresso martinis because I said it was my destiny to have one last night," she said, noting that people would tell her to "pace yourself" even as they kept bringing more — a detail she half-joked might explain the swearing.
