Mikaela Shiffrin buries Olympic demons with slalom gold
Third time’s the charm: Mikaela Shiffrin finally grabbed hardware at the Milan Cortina Games, winning gold in her signature slalom with a time of 1:39.10 in her last attempt to medal there.
"I questioned all that I’ve learned in life, multiple times this week. I questioned what kind of grit I have in my heart and I wondered if I should be doing this at all," Mikaela said in a social media post following her win. "I questioned my toughness and tenacity. I questioned it all. And then I left those questions behind, and stepped into the arena anyway."
Fellow skier Lindsey Vonn, who is facing her own adversity after injuring her leg at the games, took to social media to celebrate her pal. "Huge congrats @mikaelashiffrin," she wrote on Instagram. Olympic great Simone Biles chimed in too, saying: "freaking rockstar!! so proud of you!!"
