Mike Hale's winter TV list highlights Scrubs, The Forsytes and new spinoffs
Critic Mike Hale recently issued a list of shows to watch this winter, noting revivals and new series with announced premiere dates and platforms: “Scrubs” (ABC, Feb. 25), a “Malcolm in the Middle” miniseries (Hulu, April 10), “The Forsytes” (PBS, March 22), “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” (HBO, Jan.
18), “Rise of the 49ers” (AMC, Feb. 1), “The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins” (NBC, Feb. 23), “Imperfect Women” (Apple TV, March 18) and David E. Kelley’s “Margo’s Got Money Troubles” (Apple TV, April 15). The newsletter also noted that “The Pitt” has returned for a second season.
The writer described the comfort of reuniting with familiar characters when the world feels unpredictable, but raised questions about the effect of long-ended shows returning “from the dead.” The piece singled out the return of “Scrubs” after 16 years and the unexpected revival of “Malcolm in the Middle,” noting a different emotional response compared with more recent continuations like “The Pitt.” Among the writer’s favorites was “The Forsytes,” described as a prequel to John Galsworthy’s Forsyte Saga novels and linked to the 2002 mini-series; the new production brings back old characters with new actors and casts Stephen Moyer as Old Jolyon.
The newsletter suggested that viewers unfamiliar with the characters have a “delightful binge” ahead.
