Mike Myers reprises Elon Musk in SNL 'Trump Awards' cold open
Nbc reports that the January 24 episode of Saturday Night Live featured Mike Myers returning to play Elon Musk in the show's "Trump Awards Cold Open."
An announcer (Steve Higgins) explained the Trump Awards are "honoring the best in being, or succumbing to, President Trump." Trump (James Austin Johnson) quipped, "After that lady whose name I already forget gave me her Nobel Prize, I thought, 'I need more awards!'" and shouted out all the "awful, terrible people in the house." The sketch referenced recent headlines about large bruises on both of Trump's hands (the White House says he knocked it on a table, and Trump blamed too much aspirin), and JD Vance, now played by new cast member Jeremy Culhane following Bowen Yang's exit, presented Best Picture (of Me) with a photo titled "Trump Receiving Another Fake Award That He Made FIFA Invent to Give to Himself."
Myers' Musk delivered lines including, "Oh, come on. Thank you, thank you! I'm so emotionless to be here," and "No tariffs on humor, legalize comedy!" The cold open eulogized items such as the demolished East Wing, checks and balances, and civil rights, and included a gag bringing on Carrie Underwood and the construction worker for The Village People. The sketch aired as part of SNL's Season 51; viewers can watch Saturday Night Live Saturdays at 11:30/10:30c and next day on Peacock.
