Miley Cyrus's Controversial Turn in 'Crisis in Six Scenes'
Miley Cyrus moved beyond her Disney past for Woody Allen's Prime Video miniseries Crisis in Six Scenes, released in 2016. She plays Lennie, a quintessential 1960s flower child and radical leftist whose arrival quickly upends a suburban household. Set in the turbulent 1960s, the six-episode series follows neurotic retiree Sidney Munsinger (Allen) and his wife Kay (Elaine May) after Kay invites the fugitive Lennie to stay.
Lennie eats their food, openly smokes pot and uses the house to arrange protests, prompting heated debates about politics and forcing the couple to confront social change. As critic Chris Cabin wrote, "The small yet substantial adventure that Lennie’s appearance sets him and his wife on gives him a genuine thrill and though Allen never dares get sentimental about such things, he’s rarely felt this existentially optimistic." Despite Allen's involvement and a cast that included John Magaro and Rachel Brosnahan, the miniseries was poorly received.
