Millie Bobby Brown says there is 'finality' to Eleven's Stranger Things ending
Movieweb reports that Millie Bobby Brown has broken her silence on whether Eleven could still be alive, saying there is "finality" in Stranger Things Season 5's official ending.
Brown told Netflix Tudum that she related to Eleven as a young girl who couldn't find her inner voice and that in Season 5 the character is finally "able to find her voice." She said, "I think this season she is able to make a decision that's far greater than any she's ever made before. It's very new to me because I think I know there's finality in it." The emotional finale shows Eleven sacrificing herself to protect the survivors of Hawkins, and the subsequent scene of her "living" in a remote place appears to be a visualization for those who want to believe she could still be alive.
The Duffers intended to leave room for interpretation: Ross Duffer said, "There was never a version of the story where Eleven was hanging out with the gang at the end," and that Eleven had to go away so the other characters could move on. Matt Duffer added, "if Eleven is out there, the most that they could hope for is a belief that it's true because they can't be in contact with her. Everything falls apart if that were the case." While the creators and Brown present the sacrifice as the series' real ending, the show leaves some ambiguity for fans to debate.
