Minecraft-like Allumeria pulled from Steam after Microsoft DMCA — Pcgamer

Unomelon announced its lo-fi voxel sandbox Allumeria would be playable in Steam Next Fest after a year of development, but two weeks later the game was removed from Steam following a DMCA takedown from Microsoft claiming it infringes Minecraft's copyright. "I genuinely do not know what to do," Unomelon posted in the game's Discord.

Allumeria visibly resembles Minecraft, but many procedurally generated games have riffed on that style. Microsoft's claim cites a screenshot from Allumeria alongside one from Minecraft, with no specific similarities noted beyond the use of voxels. Unomelon suggested the takedown may have come from an automated claiming service called Tracer.AI, and Valve's policy automatically removes a game when a DMCA is issued, which could mean the decision was made without human review.

Other Minecraft-like projects have avoided similar action—Hytale launched recently (not on Steam)—and the developer of Vintage Story described the claim as "ridiculous" and called for an official statement from Mojang.
