Miss J Alexander paralyzed after 2022 stroke, spent five weeks in coma

On the third episode of Netflix’s "Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model," Miss J Alexander said, "On December 27th of 2022, I had a stroke." He woke up in a hospital, spent five weeks in a coma and could neither walk nor speak. The 67-year-old described the ordeal as "emotional," adding, "I cried.

I am not ashamed to say that I cried." While he was hospitalized, former co-stars Jay Manuel and Nigel Barker visited him. "When he saw me, he was happy to see me and the two of us cried together and I held him," Barker recalled, and Manuel said he could see how upset Alexander was.

When the friends later reunited, Barker acknowledged Alexander's progress and said he was "battling through" his healing: "When we first saw you in that hospital, you could hardly move, hardly talk. Now you’re sitting up doing an interview, chatting, talking, rolling your eyes and making us laugh." Alexander confirmed he has not yet received a visit from Tyra Banks, though she texted that she wanted to come.
