Modder adds throwable 'BALL' item to capture NPCs in Baldur's Gate 3

Pcgamer: Modder ForKiramay has released the Binding Arcane Lattice Lock, or "BALL", a throwable item for Baldur's Gate 3 that, the mod page says, lets players "capture non-player characters inside a ball and free them later (or don't)."

The BALL expands on the game's existing Iron Flask—an early item whose tooltip says it "can hold friends and foes"—by allowing repeated captures. To collect a character you can throw the BALL at them, though ForKiramay notes that "neutral NPCs sometimes take offense to being hit in the head," or you can use the item's Gotta Catch 'Em All spell to fire a beam and capture remotely. The article added, "I can't say for certain, but I expect somewhere in the world a Nintendo lawyer just felt a tingle."

ForKiramay warns they "did NOT put safety rails" on the legally nonactionable creature-collection sphere, saying capturing plot-relevant NPCs can easily break the story and recommending against moving a captured NPC between story acts. The BALL Character Capture mod is available on Nexus Mods now.
