Modder suggests DLC checks may cause Monster Hunter Wilds PC slowdowns
Kotaku reports that yesterday a Reddit user, u/de_Tylmarande, posted a theory that how Monster Hunter Wilds checks for downloadable content could be a major factor behind the game's reportedly poor PC performance.
The user said they discovered the issue after playing the game through a friend's Steam account and seeing dramatically higher FPS on the same machine; "on the account with no DLC I get heavy and stable FPS drops down to like 20-25 in hubs, while on the account with all DLC bought it’s 80+ FPS." They posted a video of a custom mod that bypasses the game's DLC checks, a claim that has since gone viral. The poster also noted prior interaction with Capcom, saying they provided an FPS fix for Dragon’s Dogma 2 in 2024 that was later included in a patch. Players have reported performance worsening with each update, and the game currently has 190 individual pieces of DLC on Steam; each update has also come paired with new DLC.
Capcom has not confirmed the modder’s findings, and the Reddit user emphasized they do not believe this was done intentionally: "I did NOT mean Capcom did this on purpose... it’s just a bug in the code they need to fix." There is no word yet on whether the next Monster Hunter Wilds PC patch will address the issue.
