Goal reports Mohamed Salah reached 100 goal contributions for Egypt after scoring in their Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final 3-2 win over the Ivory Coast, a strike that helped send the Pharaohs into the semi-finals.

The century comprises 65 goals and 35 assists across 111 appearances since his 2011 debut. Salah’s decisive goal arrived in the 52nd minute of the last-eight tie; he captains Egypt and remains without an AFCON title, having twice finished as a runner-up.

Salah hit the 100 mark in fewer games than Lionel Messi (122) and Cristiano Ronaldo (136), sitting behind Pele (77) and Neymar (94) but ahead of Romelu Lukaku (113) and Luis Suárez (116). Ex-players Jay-Jay Okocha and John Obi Mikel have said he needs an AFCON win to be regarded as a continental legend (Channel 4), and Salah said: "It was a perfect win... we are fighting so hard, you can see the players, nobody is holding anything back. We are just carrying on."

Egypt’s progress delays Salah’s return to Liverpool: he has already missed fixtures against Tottenham, Wolves, Leeds, Fulham and Arsenal and will be unavailable for the FA Cup tie with Barnsley. The AFCON final is set for January 18, meaning he would also miss the home game with Burnley if Egypt reach the final; he signed a two-year contract extension with Liverpool in April 2025 and is being tipped to see out at least a few more months of that deal.
