Pcgamer found a surprising number of applications that randomly select and terminate processes on a PC. One example posted by user IceSolst on X, created with the AI coding platform Cursor AI, reportedly selects a process by PID and terminates it; subsequent tweets say a storefront appears to let users buy malware using "$hitcoins" earned from each spin. The article notes that specific application is not available to download.

There are also GitHub projects that do something similar. Codebox published a project called process roulette about five years ago that lets you choose how many rounds to play and warns "please use a VM!"; the game can only be stopped early by typing the phrase: "i am a coward'. Another project born from a tweet by user Jamis around ten years ago encourages a group of players to join a virtual machine to play, with a "croupier" and a "controller" running the game. A cursory GitHub search turned up other masochistic programs as well.

Unless you install malware, the article notes, simply restarting after a crash will generally fix the problem. It also relays an anecdote in which a source said a colleague had created a similar application and used it on unsuspecting users, an act described as tantamount to a small-scale localised cyber attack, and the writer suggested securing your PC with a password.
