Collider reports that Murderbot Season 1 is tearing up the Apple TV+ charts globally, according to data from FlixPatrol, and the series has already been renewed for a second season. Based on Martha Wells’ The Murderbot Diaries, the Apple TV+ adaptation follows an artificial private security consultant forced into unwanted missions.

The show’s first season — released May 15, 2025 on Apple TV+ — has earned strong reception, with Rotten Tomatoes scores of 95% (critics) and 82% (audience), and drew public praise from George R.R. Martin in 2025, the article says. Alexander Skarsgård leads the cast as the SEC‑UNIT, with co-stars including Noma Dumezweni, David Dastmalchian, Sabrina Wu, Akshay Khanna, Tattiawna Jones and Tamara Podemski.

The series was created and shepherded by Chris and Paul Weitz, who wrote, directed and executive produced Season 1, with Aurora Guerrero and Roseanne Liang among the directors and David S. Goyer serving as an executive producer. Apple TV+ renewed Murderbot for Season 2 on the day Season 1 aired its finale, but the streamer has not announced a release date.

Collider notes that the Skydance merger with Paramount Television Studios and the busy schedules of major cast members are likely affecting the timeline.
