NBC’s Sunday Night Basketball debuts Feb. 1 with Lakers-Knicks and Thunder-Nuggets
With the Super Bowl coming to NBC and Peacock on Feb. 8 and Sunday Night Football wrapped for the year, NBC will debut a new weekly show, Sunday Night Basketball, beginning Feb. 1 on NBC and Peacock. The series premiere will feature two games: the New York Knicks vs. the Los Angeles Lakers at Madison Square Garden at 7 p.m.
ET, followed by the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder vs. the Denver Nuggets at Ball Arena in Denver at 9:30 p.m. ET. NBC called both matchups potential previews of 2026 playoff games. Both games will be preceded by Basketball Night in America, a brand-new pregame show that starts at 6 p.m.
ET and will stream on Peacock as well as air on NBC. The pregame will be hosted by Maria Taylor with analysis from Basketball Hall of Famers Carmelo Anthony, Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady. NBC said the first episode of Basketball Night in America, live from Madison Square Garden, will also include special contributions from Caitlin Clark and Bob Costas.
For the Lakers-Knicks game NBC named Mike Tirico on play-by-play, Reggie Miller providing color commentary, Jamal Crawford offering analysis and Zora Stephenson as courtside reporter. The Nuggets-Thunder broadcast will feature Noah Eagle with commentary from Grant Hill and courtside reporting from Ashley ShahAhmadi.
