Neal Maupay pictured in headlock with Sevilla staffer over old club tweet
Neal Maupay has been pictured putting a Sevilla staff member in a headlock after the club dug out old tweets that mocked him, AFP reports. The ex-Brighton striker has joined Sevilla on loan from Marseille until the end of the season. Sevilla's official X account had posted a joke at Maupay's expense during a pre-season friendly in August.
The post read: 'Whenever Neal Maupay comes on and doesn’t score, the social media manager smiles.' The club used that message for Maupay's reveal video; he then wrote a more positive version, gave a broad smile and double thumbs up, and posted asking where the admin's office was because he 'just wanted to talk'.
A little under an hour later he was pictured getting his own back. The loan move from Marseille offers a lifeline after Maupay's career stalled at Les Olympiens, AFP says. After an initial loan from Everton in 2024-25 in which he scored four goals in 22 league appearances, he joined Marseille for £6 million last summer but quickly fell out of Roberto De Zerbi's plans following signings of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Timothy Weah.
He has made three appearances and scored once this term; moves to Sassuolo and PAOK were floated but did not materialise. Sevilla have struggled this season and sit 12th in La Liga, with Akor Adams and Isaac Romero sharing the striking duties and Adams the club's leading scorer with six goals despite an AFCON absence in January.
