Netflix lands streaming rights to live-action Gundam film starring Sydney Sweeney
Netflix has secured the streaming rights to a live-action Gundam feature film, according to Deadline. The adaptation is set to star Sydney Sweeney and Noah Centineo, with Jim Mickle attached to write and direct.
The film will be produced by Legendary Pictures alongside franchise owner Bandai Namco Filmworks. Jim Mickle — who developed the Netflix series Sweet Tooth — is leading the project as writer-director.
Neither Legendary Pictures nor Netflix has confirmed or commented on the story, and the announcement of Netflix’s streaming deal comes via Deadline’s report.
The live-action film would be the first feature in the long-running Gundam franchise, which began in 1979 with Mobile Suit Gundam. The franchise is a major sci-fi property and one of the most popular giant mecha series worldwide, generating about $600 million in merchandise sales annually.
No specific plot details, character assignments for Sweeney and Centineo, or a production start date have been released. This is a developing story.
