New Trump Banner Hung on Justice Department Building
A long blue banner bearing Mr. Trump’s likeness was draped on the exterior of the Justice Department headquarters in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, its lower border reading “Make America Safe Again.” It is the latest of several large presidential banners now hanging from federal buildings across the capital.
The signage is a striking indication of how Mr. Trump has eroded the separation that long existed between the Justice Department and the White House to shield the department from political influence. He has installed allies at the top ranks to oversee a retribution campaign and investigate perceived political enemies; hundreds of agency lawyers have been fired, and thousands more have resigned.
The White House referred questions about the banner — including why it was installed, its cost and how long it will remain — to the Justice Department, which did not respond immediately. Similar banners were installed last year at the Agriculture and Labor departments.
