NexTool Pocket Tool E1: a highly functional multitool under $30
The NexTool Pocket Tool E1 packs 10 functions into a compact package and carries a roughly $27 price tag, offering a premium-feeling multitool in the sub-$30 range. It measures 3.1 x 1.0 x 0.7 inches and weighs under 3.5 ounces, so it slips into a pocket without much notice.
Its components are made from heat-treated 30Cr13 stainless steel with polymer scales. The screwdriver is a highlight and can be expanded with a 10-bit pack whose bits are compatible with Leatherman's bit holder. The scissors and blades perform well; the knife and mini scraper use thumb studs for opening while the other tools use nail nicks, and the utility knife accepts X-Acto blades.
Testing showed the tools are sharp out of the box and retain their edge after extended use. Some joints are initially stiff and need a short break-in period; the utility knife requires practice to open, which helps prevent accidental deployment in a pocket.
