Nick Reiner removed from suicide watch, remains in high observation housing
People reports that Nick Reiner is no longer on suicide watch at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in downtown Los Angeles, but remains confined in High Observation Housing (HOH) and under constant monitoring after entering the jail system on the morning of Dec. 15. Reiner faces two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of his parents, Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Singer Reiner, 70, and prosecutors have filed a special allegation that a knife was used.
The couple were found dead inside their Brentwood home on Dec. 14; the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner confirmed the deaths were from "multiple sharp force injuries," and their bodies were returned to the family on Dec. 19 after autopsies. Inside the jail, a sheriff source says Reiner is housed alone, required to wear a yellow jail-issued shirt and blue pants, has had a suicide-prevention smock removed, is monitored every 15 minutes, is escorted and recorded when leaving his cell, is allowed to communicate only with counsel and authorized personnel, and is served three meals a day in confinement.
The source added that doctors and mental health professionals have determined Reiner has a "mental disability." Reiner made his first court appearance on Dec. 17 and did not enter a plea; his arraignment is scheduled for Jan. 7, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. at the Los Angeles Superior Court Stanley Mosk Courthouse.
