Nicolas Jackson set to return to Chelsea after Bayern decline buy clause — Goal

Nicolas Jackson looks set to return to Chelsea in the summer after Bayern Munich declined to trigger the purchase clause in his loan deal. The Senegal international has struggled to force his way into Vincent Kompany's starting XI since moving to the Allianz Arena, and the German champions have no plans to make his stay permanent.

The striker needed 40 appearances of at least 45 minutes each to activate an obligation to buy but has only featured in 22 games for Bayern, reaching the minutes target in seven. His season was interrupted by the Africa Cup of Nations, where he played five games during Senegal's run to the title.

Bayern paid a £14m loan fee and would have owed an extra £56m if the clause had been met, a scenario that now appears unlikely. Jackson has scored five goals for Bayern and questions remain over his consistency at the highest level. Kompany has nonetheless praised his contribution: "He’s helped us a lot.
