Nintendo limits built-in screenshot and social sharing in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream
Nintendo says it will restrict certain image-sharing features in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, the Switch and Switch 2 life-sim sequel arriving April 16, a change first noticed on the company’s support site after the January 29 Nintendo Direct and highlighted by Wario64 on social media.
On its support page, Nintendo said the game offers plenty of “freedom” that can lead to “unpredictable moments,” and that “out-of-context scenes may be misunderstood.” The company added these concerns motivated “restrictions on certain image-sharing features.” The official Japanese site specifies that console functions for transferring images to smartphones, posting directly to social media, and automatically uploading images (Nintendo Switch 2 only) will not be available.
Nintendo also noted Switch 2 players can still use Game Chat to share gameplay. Coverage of the change pointed out that the limits affect built-in sharing tools rather than preventing people from photographing their screens with phones and posting images; the support page does not list every technical detail.
Some observers also noted the announcement comes as the game is the first Nintendo title to officially feature gay and non-binary Miis.
