Nintendo masks violence with awkward gameplay in Direct
Trailers often highlight competent gameplay, but Nintendo’s Partner Direct featured oddly error-filled footage for two major third-party Switch ports: Resident Evil Requiem and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. The choice appeared aimed at avoiding gore that might clash with the company’s family-friendly image.
Both segments showed missed shots and poorly timed attacks. One Requiem clip has Leon Kennedy grab a chainsaw only to miss and strike a bed railing, sending up sparks; a Great Circle moment shows Indiana Jones swing and miss a boatful of Nazis and hit the water below.
The Requiem narrator praises Leon’s “physical prowess” and his ability to “fire from a distance” while the footage repeatedly shows shots missing by feet. Nintendo has softened or edited violent content in past Directs as well.
