Nintendo’s Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream adds non-binary Miis and custom design tools
Nintendo used a Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream Direct to reveal details about the upcoming third entry in the Mii-based social sim, Kotaku reports. The game is scheduled to launch April 16 and will appear on both the original Nintendo Switch and the Switch 2. The Direct showed an all-new Mii creator: players can have the game generate looks by answering questions or use a deeper editor with options such as ear shapes, Kotaku says.
During character creation you can choose "dating preferences" and select non-binary as well as male or female. Kotaku describes ways players can influence residents’ relationships, including matchmaking and suggesting talking points to help two characters find common ground — in one example an odd topic like "monster trucks" brings two characters together.
The game includes a MiiNews Network that provides surreal island updates; clips shown in the Direct included a time-traveling research crew and a report of a "nearby faucet that appeared to be dispensing Patrick," Kotaku notes. Home decor options shown range from supermarket-style interiors to libraries, and the Direct demonstrated a drawing tool that lets players create pets, clothing designs and building exteriors.
Kotaku’s write-up suggested that the custom-drawing features could be used to make crude or explicit creations.
