Nioh 3's Metacritic score places it above the second entry in the Soulslike trilogy while still sitting below the original game. At the time of writing, the PS5 version is at 86 and the PC version at 85, putting it ahead of Nioh 2's original PS4 score of 85; Nioh 2 – The Complete Edition scored 86, tying those versions.

The original Nioh holds the series' highest score at 88, while Nioh: Complete Edition sits at 84, the lowest in the series.

In the GamesRadar+ review, Luke Kemp awards Nioh 3 4.5/5 and calls it "a triumphant evolution of the series for existing fans, and the best possible jumping-on point (though far from an easy one) for new ones." He adds, "Nioh 3 demands care, planning, and patience – and gives immense satisfaction in the form of a brutal but engrossing adventure in return."
