Noah Centineo begins filming Rambo origin prequel in Thailand this week
Noah Centineo will begin filming John Rambo, a prequel exploring the origins of Sylvester Stallone’s character, this week in Thailand, Bloody Disgusting reports. Jalmari Helander, director of Sisu, is set to helm the project.
The film, written by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani, aims to show how the man from First Blood first drew blood, the article said, and a teaser poster accompanied the production announcement.
In a statement that accompanied the poster, Helander wrote that the project is 'Rambo stripped down, raw, and real—a survival story about endurance, persistence, and lost innocence,' and said it will bring audiences the start of John Rambo’s journey, the outlet reported.
Helander told GamesRadar+ in November 2025 that the prequel will begin with Rambo younger and in a place where 'everything is basically pretty okay for Rambo,' and will explore what happened to make him the figure seen in First Blood, the interview said.
Centineo, who is promoting his role as Ken in Street Fighter and is set to star opposite Sydney Sweeney in Netflix’s Gundam, will be joined in the Rambo prequel by Yao, Jason Tobin, Quincy Isaiah, Jefferson White and Tayme Thapthimthong, the report stated.
There is currently no confirmed release date for the film, the article noted.
