Production has begun in Thailand on the John Rambo origin film starring Noah Centineo, and the studio released a first-look poster on Thursday, January 29, along with a statement from director Jalmari Helander. Helander wrote on social media that First Blood changed his life when he was eleven and called Rambo a defining influence on why he became a filmmaker.

'As we begin production on the origin of John Rambo, we’re going back to the beginning,' he said, describing the movie as 'Rambo stripped down, raw, and real — a survival story about endurance, persistence, and lost innocence.' Erin Westerman, president of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, said the new film could bridge 'new' and 'existing fans' by exploring 'John Rambo’s roots, his principles, and most importantly, some incredible action.' The announced cast includes Noah Centineo (Black Adam), yao (Sinners), Quincy Isaiah (Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty), Jefferson White (Yellowstone), Jason Tobin (F9: The Fast Saga), and Tayme Thapthimthong (The White Lotus).

Producers Kevin King Templeton and Les Weldon said Helander and Centineo are a 'powerful combination,' praising Helander's discipline and Centineo's commitment to the role.
