Noel Gallagher says he would write the next James Bond theme if asked
Noel Gallagher has said he would “absolutely” write the theme song for the next James Bond film if asked, calling it “an absolute honour” in remarks to TalkSport. Gallagher said there had been no contact with the franchise’s producers but that he would leap at the opportunity and that he thought the series’ theme songs “should be done by Brits not Yanks.” He has previously said he would record a Bond song “in a heartbeat.” The comments followed rumours that Oasis had been courted for a Bond theme, with Gallagher’s brother Liam replying to a fan on X in December: “It’s happening you wait till you hear it it’s the best BOND tune ever.” Gallagher, who with his previously estranged brother completed Oasis’s Live 25 tour last year with 41 shows across 13 countries, also said he would be interested in portraying a “Mancunian villain” in the next instalment.
The history of Bond theme songs dates to Dr No in 1962, with every film since having its own song and the artist often changing from film to film. Only 10 British bands, composers or artists have provided songs for the 25 films produced to date: John Barry (1962, 1963, 1969), Shirley Bassey (1964, 1971, 1979), Tom Jones (1965), Paul McCartney and Wings (1973), Lulu (1974), Sheena Easton (1981), Duran Duran (1985), Adele (2012) and Sam Smith (2015).
American band Garbage provided the music in 1999. The three most recent ballads from Adele, Smith and Billie Eilish each won the Academy Award for Best Original Song.
