Training at Norland boosted my confidence as a nanny — Businessinsider

Roxanne Ardekani grew up in New Orleans to Iranian parents and studied in the US and Austria. While abroad she took a nannying job that brought together her interests in child development and hands-on care, and a chance discovery of Norland prompted her to move to the UK to train.

Norland felt markedly different from her earlier studies. Classes run about 2.5 hours and are tightly connected to placements with families, and instructors focus on methodology, data quality, ethics, and ensuring students understand what they are doing rather than leaving them to figure it out alone.

Practical training exposes students to varied family settings, testing how classroom learning translates into day-to-day care. Modules cover topics from child neurology and self-regulation to communicating with parents, and a recent entrepreneurship class made her think about long-term career possibilities, including starting her own practice.
